Vegetable Garden Layout
Before planting your new vegetable garden it would be wise to take some time and consider the different types of vegetable garden plans. A vegetable garden layout should fit the needs of the gardener and the environment.
If you have a large family and live in the country then you might consider planting a large vegetable garden. However, if your family isn’t that large and you live in the suburbs you might be interested in an organic ecological vegetable garden.
This type of vegetable garden layout fits perfectly into today’s modern day lifestyle. The basic concept of an eco-garden is to mimic Mother Nature. Unlike traditional vegetable garden plans where every vegetable is planted in rows, the eco-garden utilizes dense vegetation and companion planting to produce an abundance of food with minimal effort.

This allows the gardener to plant harder vegetables on the outside border and helps to shelter the plants inside its own eco-environment. The vegetables are also planted very close together. Arranging the plants closely packed helps keep weeds to a minimum because it eliminates the unnecessary voids that the weeds thrive on.
Inside the square the vegetables are laid out in rows with paths so that they can be reached from either side. To take advantage of the maximum amount of sunlight and air circulation, try to arrange the rows running north and south if possible.
By using the companion planting method in your vegetable garden layout you will help setup an ecosystem where the plants can support and benefit from each other. Some of these benefits are higher crop yields, pest control, and the ability to grow more vegetables in a smaller area.
